Prerequisites:

Current Lantra Awards NHSS12A Foreman Certificate.

NB It is a requirement to complete 12B LTMO course before the 12A Forman course unless you are renewing an in date fully assessed 12A Foreman category or 12A TSCO/TSS category

To be registered by LANTRA Awards as a TSCO/TSS, candidates must hold:

  • a valid Lantra Awards NHSS12A Foreman certificate (certificates valid for 2 years) OR have a valid 12A Foreman/Non-Driver Supervisor category 
  • a valid NHSS12AB TSCO certificate (certificates valid for 2 years)

The finer details 

On completion of this course learners will be able to demonstrate that they have: 

  • a minimum satisfactory level of knowledge of the TSCO role 
  • a comprehensive awareness of the TSCO's responsibilities
  • a detailed level of knowledge of Temporary Traffic Management Standards.  
  • a current appropriate First Aid certificate (must include First Aid Regulations 1981)
  • a valid Health & Safety Course or Qualification; issued by IOSH, NeBOSH or CITB, that have been completed in the last 5 years (except NeBOSH), please contact Lantra Awards for a full list of acceptable courses or refer to the TSCO application form.

NHSS 12AB Traffic Safety Control Officer/Traffic Safety Supervisor (TSCO/TSS).

This course will cover: The Traffic Safety & Control Officer/Traffic Safety Supervisor (TSCO/TSS):

  • TSCO/TSS Roles, Responsibilities and their Limitations
  • Worksite Hazards – types and effect on traffic
  • Temporary Vehicle Restraint Systems (TVRS)
  • Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) process and application
  • Standard Roadwork Elements – Narrow Lanes and Contraflows
  • Traffic signage systems and engineering
  • Speed Limits and Enforcement
  • Road Space Booking and Usage
  • Simple Method Statements review process
  • Weather and winter maintenance process
  • Pre-installation Checks by the TSS and other Factors
  • Vehicle Recovery Operations
  • Incident Management responsibilities and recommended actions by a TSCO/TSS

Please note where the pass mark is not achieved the Learner will be required to take the course again. There are no resits available.

All persons who will be required by their employer to work on motorways and or high speed dual carriageways as a Traffic Safety and Control Officer/Traffic Safety Supervisor (TSCO/TSS).
